Strengths as an Educator

During the three semesters in which I was assigned to teach the courses Intermediate English I and II, having one or two sections during each semester, I have reflected on the strengths which I acquired as an educator. Student evaluations have also helped me identify many of these strengths as well. From my part, I can identify one of my strengths as organization. My courses follow an organized pattern where they first receive theory after which they apply the knowledge gained to the writing process, which I teach on the first moths of class. Each individual class follows a similar organized pattern, where students first receive theory and after this they are able to apply what they learned during the second part of the class where they practice with a variety of different exercises. Planning is also another of my strengths as an educator. Students receive a course outline where they have an idea of what will happen during the semester and assignments, which will be given on each day along with readings. It is important that students receive such information to plan ahead of time and prepare themselves for the upcoming classes. Both organization and planification have been pointed out by students as strengths which I posses. Punctuality is also an important strength, which I have identified. As educators, many of us demand punctuality from our students and we must enforce this by demonstrating to them that we practice punctuality as well, arriving ten to fifteen minutes before class time to prepare the classroom for our students’ arrival. Behaving in a professional manner is a strength educators should posses and one, which I have also identified within myself. Students respect educators who behave in a professional manner at all times as well as dress according to the educational setting. This demonstrates to our students the seriousness, which we as educators have, and they should have as well towards the course and each individual class day. These are some of the strengths which I have observed and students have constantly pointed out I posses during my time as a University Teaching Instructor.
